Ride Out Extrication Comic

Check out Ride Out Comic!  It’s a site that takes a deeper look into the life of firefighters. Whether around the fire station or at home with the family 24/7 they’re always firefighters.  The artist behind Ride Out is Darrell, a Firefighter Paramedic in North Texas. W Make sure you follow their Facebook page.  I may just see if they could whip up a good logo for this site!

Directing Traffic on a MVA Scene!

Here is a little animated story from the Freeway Patrol, Episode 6, The One with the Purple Unicorn.  We all have had a “Dr Grandal” on a MVA scene!  A driver who thinks they should be allowed to go whatever direction they want!

Multi-Vehicle Extrication MVA, Is your department ready for this call?

I wish I could say I found this very well photographed extrication scene, but FireGeezer here at FireEMSBlogs.com broke the story last night!  How would you handle this scene?  By all accounts, the Glenview Fire Department did a great job getting the occupants out!

Shortly after noon today the Glenview Fire Department was notified of a multi-vehicle accident with a rollover and entrapment in the 2900 block of Glenview Road. Unconfirmed reports are that the police department had a cellphone caller advise of an erratic driver and while on the phone the caller may have witnessed the accident. Glenview Fire responded with two engines, two ambulances, a truck, and Battalion 6. Upon arrival at the scene two additional ambulances were requested and a third engine for manpower.

A Jeep SUV was on top of one sedan and a third vehicle was about 3o feet down the road with extensive damage. Companies began two extrications; one to free the driver of the car and the second to free two patients from the SUV. The three occupants of the car underneath the SUV were out of the vehicle when units arrived.

Multi-Door Pickup Truck Side Removal

Make sure you read David Dalrymple’s article titled Multi-Door Pickup Truck Side Removal.  But what is different?  Isn’t just a truck with four doors?  Kind of…….. the vehicle has no B post but the doors are extremely difficult to remove.   Make sure you check it out, based on the location and vehicles I bet this is in Dave’s DVD series available at PennWell Books.  I’ll check with Dave and see if it is.

The key to remove the doors is to start at the top of the small door with the top latch.

2012 Mercedes-Benz M-class Body Structure

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is a rigid uni-body structure that encircles the passenger cabin in a highly protective network of ultra-high and high-strength steel, magnesium reinforcements and triple-layer construction of all eight roof pillars.  Advanced crumple zones and subframe-mounting of the axles help to  divert impact forces away from the passenger compartment.

Where’s the Boron in a Volvo C70?

Ron Moore from the University of Extrication sent me this photos a few months back from a 1998 Volvo C70 that he cut up.  Ron found a hollow Boron pipe inside the A-pillar that actually bends and is inserted into the rocker. You would have to completely cut through this at the base of the A-pillar when doing a dash roll or dash jacking.  While the C70 is a convertible, don’t let that fact drop your guard and think that it will be a routine extrication.
