Ip-so-facto, Propane is safer than gasoline as far as tanks are concerned, All gasoline tanks these day are made of thin plastic. Not very safe in a crash as it is prone to rupture in a crash situation. Automotive propane tanks are made of 1/4 thick steel with in a wreck they dent not rupt.
